New Moon in Leo
9/9/2026
There is something powerful about a New Moon. The sky goes dark, the Moon disappears from view, and for a moment we are invited into the quiet space between what has been and what is ready to begin.
The New Moon in Leo on September 10 carries a beautiful invitation:
Come back to what makes you feel alive.
This New Moon isn't necessarily asking you to reinvent yourself. It may be asking you to remember who you were before you became so concerned with being productive, getting it right, proving yourself, or receiving approval from everyone around you.
Leo asks us to return to the heart.
To create.
To play.
To express ourselves.
And most importantly, to allow ourselves to shine because it feels good to be fully ourselves—not because someone else is watching.
The Energy of the New Moon in Leo
In sidereal astrology, this New Moon brings the Sun and Moon together in Leo, the sign ruled by the Sun.
The Sun represents our inner light, vitality, identity and sense of purpose. Leo carries this solar energy outward through creativity, courage, confidence, self-expression and joy.
We often associate Leo with being seen, but Leo isn't simply about receiving attention.
At its healthiest, Leo is the courage to say:
This is who I am. This is what I love. This is what I want to create.
There is freedom in allowing yourself to express that without constantly asking whether other people approve.
That is one of the biggest invitations of this New Moon.
Create From Joy, Not Validation
There is another important influence surrounding this New Moon: Ketu is also moving through Leo.
Ketu is associated with release and detachment. Wherever Ketu travels, it can begin loosening our attachment to the things we once believed defined us.
And in Leo, that can bring our relationship with recognition and validation into focus.
There is a difference between wanting to share your light and needing someone else to confirm that your light matters.
Social media makes this especially easy to forget.
We create something meaningful, share something vulnerable, begin a new project or put a piece of ourselves into the world—and then immediately look outside ourselves.
Did anyone like it?
Did anyone respond?
Does anyone care?
Am I good enough to be doing this?
Ketu in Leo asks us to notice where those questions have begun influencing our choices.
Instead, this New Moon asks:
Would I still create this if nobody applauded?
Would I still pursue this if nobody understood it?
Would I still choose this simply because it makes me feel alive?
That doesn't mean we shouldn't enjoy recognition or connection. It means our sense of worth doesn't have to depend upon receiving it.
The intention becomes:
Create from joy, not validation.
Purva Phalguni: You Are Allowed to Enjoy Your Life
The Sun and Moon come together in Purva Phalguni nakshatra, a Venus-ruled lunar mansion associated with creativity, beauty, pleasure, relationships, enjoyment and rest.
And I think this adds such an important layer to the New Moon.
We live in a culture that often teaches us that our time needs to be productive to be valuable.
We should be accomplishing something.
Improving something.
Building something.
Checking something off the list.
But Purva Phalguni reminds us that joy has value too.
You are allowed to make something simply because you enjoy making it.
You are allowed to swim, dance, garden, paint, write, decorate your home, spend time outside, pull tarot cards, listen to music, make yourself feel beautiful or sit somewhere peaceful without turning the experience into an accomplishment.
You don't have to earn pleasure through productivity.
Sometimes living intentionally means allowing yourself to actually experience the life you're working so hard to build.
What Makes You Feel Alive?
This may be my favorite question for this New Moon:
What makes me feel alive?
Not what makes you successful.
Not what makes you productive.
Not what makes other people impressed with you.
What makes you feel alive?
Think about the moments when you lose track of time.
The places where your body relaxes.
The things you loved before you worried whether you were good at them.
The subjects you could talk about for hours.
The things you create because something inside you simply needs to create them.
Those are clues.
Leo reminds us that our joy can be a compass.
And perhaps this New Moon isn't asking you to add another goal to your life.
Perhaps it's asking you to make more room for the parts of yourself that are already trying to come alive.
New Moon in Leo Intentions
As you sit with this New Moon, consider setting intentions around authentic self-expression, creativity, courage, pleasure and joy.
Your intentions might sound like:
I give myself permission to follow what lights me up. I create because creating brings me joy. I allow myself to be seen without changing who I am to receive approval. I make space for play, beauty and pleasure in my everyday life. I trust that my voice has value even when nobody validates it. I am building a life that doesn't just look good from the outside—it feels good to live.
You don't need a complicated ritual.
Light a candle. Sit beneath the dark sky. Make yourself a cup of tea. Take your tarot deck outside. Journal beside the water.
Whatever helps you become quiet enough to hear yourself again.
A 3-Card New Moon in Leo Tarot Spread 🔮
For your New Moon ritual, shuffle your tarot deck while holding the intention of understanding what this Leo energy is inviting you to explore.
Pull three cards:
Card 1 — What is asking to come alive within me? Where am I being called toward more creativity, passion or authentic self-expression?
Card 2 — Where am I seeking outside validation instead of trusting myself? What am I ready to stop performing, proving or changing for other people's approval?
Card 3 — What would bring more genuine joy into my life? How can I give myself permission to follow what truly lights me up?
Don't worry about finding the "perfect" interpretation of your cards. Notice what you immediately feel when you turn each one over.
Sometimes tarot isn't about predicting what happens next.
Sometimes it simply gives us a mirror for hearing what we already know.
A New Beginning From the Heart
New Moons are traditionally associated with beginnings, but not every beginning needs to be dramatic.
Sometimes a new beginning is deciding to trust yourself a little more.
Creating something you've been afraid to share.
Making time for something that brings you joy.
Wearing something that makes you feel beautiful.
Saying what you actually think.
Returning to an old passion.
Or choosing to stop measuring the value of something you love by how other people respond to it.
Under this New Moon in Leo, ask yourself:
What would my life look like if I stopped trying to prove that it was worthy and started allowing myself to enjoy it?
You don't have to become someone new.
Maybe you simply need to come back to yourself.
Create from joy. Shine from within. And follow what makes you feel alive.
Stay wild moonchild 🌙
